The Summer White Edit

Try not to spill!

We have officially MADE IT!! Memorial Day is a few days away and that means Summer is HERE, people (even if NYC weather is misbehaving)!!! It’s time to pull out all of the white pieces that you may have hidden away post Labor Day. We’re going to talk inspiration and outfit building, but we before we get into that, white can be tricky.

White fabrics are vulnerable and show every little mark and stain. The reality is, stains happen and can be fixed (most of the time). In fact, one of us wore brand new Jenni Kayne Demi Pants (highly recommend) to the Knicks game last week…several spills happened but spirits weren’t broken!!! Clothes are meant to be worn and we have dry cleaners and friends on Substack to help repair the damage. Like

We are also fresh off the “all of our friends are getting married” scene where white was off the table for most occasions.

These things aside, every outfit over the past few months that has stopped us in our tracks had one thing in common: they were all white. A summer white outfit is fresh, polished, elegant, and CHIC!

Now, let’s talk inspiration.

When we think of Marianna Hewitt, we think neutrals. This is her bread and butter and this post from Summer 2024 lives rent free in our brains. For the millennials in the Stack…whose brain can’t separate The Trevi Fountain and the Lizzie McGuire Movie??? Separately, we STILL cannot get our hands on these Doen shorts!

Another one with an almost exclusively neutral wardrobe, Rosie. We know she is a supermodel and everything looks next level on her, but this is elegant Summer dinner perfected.

What you’ll notice in all of this inspiration is these outfits are made interesting through different textures and accessories in varying neutral colors.

So, how do we make our own white outfits???? We keep it SIMPLE! An easy base and some great accessories.

THE BASE:

Start with a great pair of white pants:

• Cotton Poplin from COS that look like a good alternative to LeSet

• Satin pants by Jenni Kayne that we LIVE in

• Our favorite linen pants you’ve seen before by Aexae. Also love these Donni.

• Or another fan favorite (and our favorite) with the La Ligne Colby

White shorts:

• Linen drawstring by Reformation

• A more elevated linen silhouette by Diish & Posse

• Or try the bubble shorts trend by Posse

Or a white skirt:

• For satin in the summer we go cheap with Zara, Mango or Diish

• A poplin skirt will not fail. This Doen skirt is the ONE! This Free People & this Aritzia bubble skirt and this smocked Madewell are also great.

• And can’t go wrong with this linen Reformation mini

Add a top!

• These are blowing up the internet. They look like the perfect amount of sheer. They are en route, we will report back. Also love this perfectly cropped ribbed tank. And this Zara v-neck tank.

• We also buy Hanes t-shirts. They’re super casual. We also like this casual style. Try this for a more fitted, sleeker look.

• For button downs, we love the Aexae button down that pairs back to the linen pants noted above or this Mango satin top
